BSIN

“Brother and Sister in Need” is a foundation of the Diocese of Feldkirch/Austria (“BSIN” for short) and supports health, education and nutrition projects in the most disadvantaged countries in the world. On the third Sunday in Advent - traditionally the Sunday "Gaudete" (English "Rejoice!") - the annual Advent collection in the parishes in Vorarlberg is the basis for BSIN projects. Brother and Sister in Need was awarded the Austrian seal of approval for donations, which, thanks to independent auditing, guarantees that the funds are used appropriately.

Origin and principles of Project work

"Brother and Sister in Need" (BSIN) was founded in 1961 by Bishop Paulus Rusch and established in 2009 as a church foundation. Since September 21, 2009, BSIN has been a "corporation under public law". We are a Christian aid organization and act according to the mission of charity. Our partners plan their holistic projects and programmes independently. We support them both ideally and financially. Our help should enable the partners to mobilize their own resources in order to break the cycle of poverty.

The impact

  • Personal contact and proximity to project partners, network partners and donors
  • Long-term nature through long-term partnerships with mutual learning and the achievement of sustainable impact
  • Poverty reduction and promotion of quality of life in international project work
  • Alleviation of immediate need in our partner regions
  • Global solidarity through mutual responsibility for our common earth and creation. Our personal actions in the global North have an impact on poverty in the global South

Thematic areas

Our project work is based on three areas: education, health and nutrition, with crosscutting themes in community development and human rights. Here we want to create liveable conditions in the disadvantaged regions through sustainable projects with our partners.

Our strengths

  • Professional, responsible and goal-oriented action
  • Many years of experience in the field of project policy and project development
  • Projects are awarded by an experienced board of trustees
  • Cooperation with proven partners who give us a comprehensive view of worldwide connections possible
  • Smallest possible administrative effort
  • Donation Seal of Approval: this guarantees proper and earmarked donations use of donations
  • Donation deductibility (SO 1434)

Our focus countries

  • Africa: Malawi, Kenya and Tanzania
  • Latin America: Brazil and Ecuador
